Having already gone back to the car to deposit some shopping I thought I would pop into TK Maxx.
I quickly found some Calvin Klein boxers some perfume and a rather nice cashmere jumper. The total sale came to just under £70. I was then told if I wanted a bag to put them in then I would have to pay for it. Knowing I had 4 carrier bags in the car I declined.
I can understand having to pay for a bag if you are say buying a newspaper but a cashmere jumper. I asked if they were happy for me to walk out of the store just holding the goods and they said yes. So there I was striding through the shopping centre clutching a cashmere sweater and feeling like a thief.
I know it probably sounds petty, having spent £70 what was 4p for the bag but it is the principle. Some shops wrap your goods in tissue paper and make your purchase feel special they value your custom. Can TK Maxx not be sensible and put clothing into paper bags like Primark do.
