A study of 20,000 women has shown that those who drink a glass or two of wine each day put on less weight than those who drink soft drinks.
The latest study from America looked at women aged 39 and over for a period of 13 years. While all the women put on some weight those who were tea total put on the most.
Perhaps it was all the biscuits and cakes they ate while drinking the tea. You don't after all usually have a glass of wine with a piece of carrot cake or a hob nob.
Next year no doubt there will be different research saying that wine is bad for us. I believe that having a little of what you fancy does you good but everything in moderation and most doctors would advise that you have a few alcohol free days each week.
One of my friends who used to enjoy a drink every night has cut back to only drink at the week-ends and has lost around 8lbs. I find that as much as I love a glass of wine in the evening my waistline soon starts to expand if I have one every day but this is probably more to do with the handful of crisps that I like to have at the same time.
